When wearing boot like that he should have ditched the trousers and gone for the suspenders. Perhaps that was his secret wish, which he expressed to the woman, and that is why she shot him?

Oh, I hadn’t thought of that angle, but it’s a very good hypothesis. She knew he was never going to make satisfactory fashion choices and she decided to thin the herd, but then she got tired and decided to take a nap before she finished the job…
