Marina felt very sophisticated in her new party dress, and she imagined what it would be like to attend one of those glamorous dinner parties in New York City. She would be the belle of the ball and let all of the men light her cigarettes and drink pink champagne and laugh and laugh. Then her dad hollered from the barn that one of the cows was having a breach birth and he needed an extra set of hands. Marina didn’t feel so fancy then…

  1. Marina couldn’t understand how she’d gotten Krazy glue stuck to the back of her dress. Lighting a cigarette, she resigned herself to the fact that she would forever be a bookend on a mantelpiece. (not sure if it’s a mantelpiece…in fact, I’m not sure what it is)
