Past Imperfect

Past Imperfect – #167

Somebody on the selection committee at the Atlantic City Miss America pageant was a wee bit confused about the actual states in America…

Note: This is part of an on-going experiment at Bonnywood. Details found here.

P.S. Yes, I realize that, over the years, the pageant had candidates that represented entities other than states (“Miss Puerto Rico”, for example) but it caught my eye that this photo showed the entire country of Canada being lumped into one person. Seems a bit unfair, eh?

  1. …. Or by Canada to stage a coupe on the U.S.A. “Course there weren’t the tough border patrol employees (on both sides of that invisible line) in 1946. Those cyborgs don’t play. I know. I been stuck in Canada, vainly trying to get home to Utah, which also isn’t represented in this line-up. I smell Mormon profiling going on! 🤣

  2. and the last of my “off the site” pieces for Brian’s contest. I finally caught up with his intention. In customary long-winded fashion of course.

Seven ‘ladies’ smiled grimly for the camera.   Their footwear was carefully selected to show their loyalty to the current ruling body.  Black shoes good, white shoes meh.   Except that woman from over the border.  She sported really incredibly cute shoes which might give evidence that Canadians have better taste than their southern based ‘cousins’.   But the woman from Delaware was clearly going to win because her attributes were just that much bigger than the others.  Despite the “I’m Easy” come hither grin that Wisconsin is sporting (or it’s too much cheese.  But can there ever really be too much cheese??) and the bold “I’m gonna stand out just this once” couture from Arizona.

    • Yes, Wisconsin does seem a bit too happy to see us. Then again, Montana looks like she’s already seen us and she wouldn’t mind seeing us again. Nevada looks like she’s too tired to see anybody. And then we have Kentucky. I just don’t trust her and the annoying little flip to her hairdo. I’d stay away from that one…
